HumanTech Spine GmbH has introduced cannulated, fenestrated reduction screws for its VENUS posterior stabilization system, the first product extension announced since the company completed its initial certifications under the European Medical Device Regulation.
The new implants allow guidewire-assisted screw insertion and provide implant-based reduction, broadening the range of cases the VENUS system can address in posterior thoracolumbar stabilization.
HumanTech describes the addition as the starting point of a series of developments planned for the VENUS platform, aimed at extending its functionality, clinical flexibility and ease of use. The company states that its objective remains the development of spinal implants that combine high quality standards with economical solutions for hospitals and surgeons.
The launch follows the award of MDR certification for the HumanTech Spine quality management system and for the complete VENUS range, including VENUS nano. In its own announcement, the company frames the certifications as the basis for resuming active development of its product portfolio, with a focus on the continuous improvement of existing systems alongside targeted expansion.
The reduction screws are not the only recent addition to the platform. HumanTech has also introduced fenestrated iliac screws for spinopelvic stabilization, designed for both open and minimally invasive techniques and intended to permit cement augmentation in patients with reduced bone quality. The company links that development to the growing number of spine patients with compromised bone stock and to its stated goal of building VENUS into a comprehensive system for geriatric trauma.
