Which Spine products have been launched in 2023?

December 30, 2023 By SPINEMarketGroup

In the year 2023, the landscape of spine product launches has undergone a noticeable shift. Unlike previous years marked by a flurry of introductions, this year has seen a more restrained approach, with a predominant focus on aligning company portfolios with prevailing product trends such as 3D technology, expansive cages, and sacral iliac implants.

Notably absent from the spotlight are industry giants like Medtronic, Depuy Synthes, and Stryker, which traditionally have been at the forefront of groundbreaking releases. In a surprising turn, Globus Medical has seized attention by introducing the MARVEL product, a significant update to Growing Rod systems.

A closer look at prolific product launches reveals Orthofix as one of the most dynamic players, unveiling a minimum of three new products. It’s worth noting, however, that these products were pre-existing developments from Seaspine, strategically incorporated post-merger.

In terms of technological advancements, after several years marked by a flurry of navigation and robotics launches, 2023 seems to signal a slowdown in this trend. Nevertheless, two notable equipment launches have emerged: Pathkeeper Surgical and the Augmentics augmented reality platform.

Breaking new ground in the realm of innovation is the commercial launch of IB Lab SQUIRRELL (ImageBiopsy). This marks a significant milestone as the first commercially available application of Artificial Intelligence in the spine, introducing a novel dimension to the industry’s technological landscape. This innovative software offers a comprehensive set of automated measurements for the assessment and quantification of scoliosis, such as coronal balance and Cobb angles, the orthopedic “Gold Standard” for the assessment of the condition.

In 2023, there have been more than 20 product launches (those that have been officially published have been included).
