Recently, we have received several requests to publish an article with data showing whether Globus Medical has already surpassed Medtronic to become the number one player in the spine market. Although Globus posted exceptional year-end 2024 results earlier in January, we are awaiting the upcoming report on February 20 to conduct a thorough analysis and provide you with the most accurate update.
However, for those who think Medtronic is no longer interested in the spine market, it is worth noting that today they announced the acquisition of certain nano surface technology assets and intellectual property rights related to Sites Medical’s OsteoSync™ titanium pads. This acquisition aims to develop Medtronic’s next generation of PEEK interbody fusion devices, indicating that the company is still active in the field.
That said, if Medtronic does not make further moves or significant acquisitions in the spine sector, it seems likely that Globus Medical could solidify its position as the market leader in 2025, especially with its ambition to expand into related segments such as pain management, reinforced by its recent acquisition of Nevro.
Stay tuned next week as we aim to provide the most accurate analysis possible on the competitive landscape in the spine market!
