MIND™ Lumbar-Thoracic Spinal System

October 12, 2013 By SPINEMarketGroup

The MIND™ Lumbar-Thoracic Spinal System is a new approach for the treatment of scoliosis. Rather than using long rods to span the length of a spinal deformity, often from the sacrum to the upper thoracic spine, MIND allows the surgeon to break the procedure down into smaller sections, using short rod lengths. This new approach provides the surgeon with the capability to perform segmental correction of a scoliosis deformity. This segmental approach can simplify the surgical procedure, while allowing compound curve correction in a more controlled manner. Additionally, revision of the MIND™ Spinal System can also be performed by employing this level by level approach, which provides for less trauma to the patient. The segmental approach can allow treatment of the growing child and permit growth to continue while maintaining correction and allowing for segmental correction revisions when they are necessary. The segmental approach provides another unique advantage, which is the potential of treating scoliosis by minimally invasive surgery. By using small openings instead of the current extremely long incision lengths, it is our goal to reduce surgical trauma and recovery time, making the procedure significantly less traumatic for children. While the focus of MIND™ is pediatric scoliosis, this system can also be used for adult correction.(Patents issued; additional patents pending)
