Jim Buck of Medcura, Inc. named EY US Entrepreneur Of The Year 2025 Mid-Atlantic Award Finalist

May 15, 2025 By SPINEMarketGroup Leave a Comment

COLLEGE PARK, Md., May 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Medcura, Inc. today announced that President, CEO & Director Jim Buck, MBA is an Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) finalist for the prestigious Entrepreneur Of The Year 2025 Mid-Atlantic Award.

Now in its 40th year, the Entrepreneur Of The Year program honors the bold leaders who disrupt markets through the world’s most ground-breaking companies, revolutionizing industries and making a profound impact on communities. The program highlights intrepid entrepreneurs whose innovations shape the future and pave the way for a thriving economy and a hopeful tomorrow. The Mid-Atlantic program celebrates entrepreneurs from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

An independent panel of judges selected Buck as a finalist for his entrepreneurial spirit, transformational ingenuity, and lasting impact in building long-term value. Buck has a proven track record of innovation and entrepreneurship, having led the development and commercialization of multiple medical device technologies — including an interventional implantable cardioverter defibrillator, a minimally invasive device for mitral valve repair, portable MRI systems for intraoperative margin assessment, and synthetic polymer biosurgery technologies.

At Medcura, Buck leads the development and commercialization of innovative hemostasis solutions that deploy patented biopolymer technologies to control surgical bleeding. LifeGel™, Medcura’s lead product for controlling bleeding in spine surgery, is the first and only absorbable hemostatic gel to receive FDA Breakthrough Device Designation.

“LifeGel is just the beginning,” says Buck. “The same biopolymer powering LifeGel has far-reaching potential across surgical applications. Our development pipeline includes additional indications and new delivery formats—bellows applicators, films, powders, and textiles — each designed to offer safer, more effective, and cost-efficient bleeding control for surgeons and trauma teams.”

Entrepreneur Of The Year honors business leaders for their ingenuity, courage and entrepreneurial spirit. The program celebrates original founders who bootstrapped their business from inception or who raised outside capital to grow their company; transformational CEOs who infused innovation into an existing organization to catapult its trajectory.

Regional award winners will be announced on June 18 during a special celebration in Washington, DC, and will become lifetime members of an esteemed community of Entrepreneur Of The Year alumni from around the world. The winners will then be considered by the National judges for the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Awards, which will be presented in November at the annual Strategic Growth Forum®, one of the nation’s most prestigious gatherings of high-growth, market-leading companies.
