Driving Force Acquires Vertebral Motion Analysis (VMA®) Technology from Wenzel Spine

August 27, 2025 By SPINEMarketGroup

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Driving Force today announced the acquisition of the groundbreaking Vertebral Motion Analysis (VMA®) technology from Wenzel Spine, marking a pivotal step in the advancement of spinal imaging and diagnostics. The acquisition positions Driving Force VMA as the sole owner and operator of the most advanced, FDA-cleared motion imaging system for diagnosing spinal ligament injuries with unmatched precision.

Developed with input from leading spine surgeons and backed by peer-reviewed studies in The Spine Journal, the VMA® system uses dynamic fluoroscopy and proprietary software to deliver objective, quantifiable, accurate, consistent, and reliable (med-legal) evidence of spinal instability injuries often missed by standard MRI and X-ray. This capability is transforming care for patients suffering from chronic spinal pain, personal injury cases, workers’ compensation claims, and sports-related injuries.

“Acquiring the VMA® technology allows us to take control of its future, accelerate innovation, and expand access to providers and patients nationwide,” said Walter Bergeron and Sam Frentzas, Founders of Driving Force. “We believe the VMA® will become the gold standard for diagnosing spinal ligament injuries, giving providers a competitive edge, improving patient outcomes, and increasing case value in the legal and insurance arenas.”

Driving Force plans to build a national network of imaging centers and strategic provider partnerships, offering exclusive regional rights to medical groups who adopt the technology. The acquisition also ensures continued development of the VMA® platform, training, and backend reporting infrastructure, maintaining the rigorous standards set by its surgical and radiological origins.

“The transition from Wenzel Spine to Driving Force is an exciting new chapter,” said William Wilson, CEO of Wenzel Spine, “We’re confident the technology will reach its full potential under Driving Force’s vision and leadership.”

The acquisition solidifies Driving Force’s mission: to make motion-based spinal imaging as indispensable as MRI in injury diagnostics, redefining how the medical and legal communities evaluate and treat spinal injuries.

Financial terms of the VMA® asset sale were not disclosed.
