MPM system of dynamic ostheosynthesis

October 19, 2015 By SPINEMarketGroup

MPM system of dynamic ostheosynthesis is a unique modular plate with two holes which may be transformed from rigid to dynamic by a simple act of unscrewing of the plate by 180° made by the surgeon depending on pre-operative data as well as those acquired during the intervention (particularly in view of the quality of the bone of the patient, the state of their ligament and muscles etc.) This system, initially commercialised in 1998 under commercial mark THAMSIN, included classic rigid plates with multiple holes.

This system offers monosegmental plates with two holes made in different lordosis angles and in different sizes. These monosegmental plates are superposed in a long assembly. The plates adapt to all random forms taken by the pedicular screws.

The innovative system of dynamic ostheosynthesis MPM® presents several advantages:

  • The possiblity to combine a rigid modular plate with a dynamic plate at every level.
  • The unique conception of monobloc multiaxial screws is very convenient and secure, offering the possibility to easily align the pedicular screws (see the picture below) by a simple tightening.
  • In case of revision/extension, no need to remove totally a former osteosynthesis to extend it to adjacent levels thanks to the modular system.
  • A third alternative was added to the above: EUROSPINE ROD SYSTEM: supplied in the same box, to offer a third alternative to the surgeon.
  • There are also optional three hole rigid plates for spondilo reduced totally or partially.

About Pedicle Screw/Rod–Based Dynamic Stabilization Devices

Dynamic stabilization is a surgical technique designed to allow for some movement of the spine, while maintaining enough stability to prevent too much movement. Pedicle-based dynamic devices were first designed to stabilize the abnormal segment and to unload degenerated discs and facet joints, while maintaining the same level of normal motion.By unloading the pressure on the degenerated disc and facets, pedicle-based dynamic devices have the potential to reduce pain associated with these anatomical structures. Furthermore, these devices can be used to prevent adjacent-segment disease, either by replacing the whole construct with dynamic rods or by “topping off” the rigid instrumented segment with pedicle-based dynamic devices, avoiding an abrupt change from a rigid construct to the more mobile adjacent segment. It has also been argued that using pedicle-based dynamic devices can promote better fusion because of micromovements across endplates, and can protect from implant failure because of better load sharing through the implant. Finally, these devices can be used to stabilize posterior iatrogenic destabilizing surgery, such as wide laminectomy and facetectomy.
