NOVAL®

January 1, 2018 By SPINEMarketGroup

Large cage – Large effect

The NOVAL® cage is used for ventral stabilisation of the mobile segment between the vertebrae. The implant is characterised above all by its size. This makes it possible to achieve support over a wide area in order to reduce the risk of the cage breaking into the end plates to a minimum. This is particularly relevant for patients with reduce bone density. The shape of the implant gives it a wide range of approach options, from posterior midline approach to dorsolateral approach through to direct lateral approach.

NOVAL® is placed by a TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion), EPLIF (Extraforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion) or a lateral approach in the L1 – S1 spinal region. The large contact area tends to prevent the implant from sinking into the adjacent vertebrae.

The large fenestration in the implant permits the cage to be packed with natural or synthetic bone graft substitute such as KAINOS® Inject.

The inserted cage, combined with additional posterior instrumentation, leads to immediate biomechanical stabilisation. This establishes the ideal conditions for vertebral body fusion.

The large selection of implants provides for a high degree of intraoperative flexibility and ensures restoration of the intervertebral space. In addition to plane-parallel implants, the NOVAL® cage is also available in 5° and 10° lordotic angles.

Material details

PEEK-OPTIMA® is a biocompatible polymer offering a number of benefits in this indication. In its strength it is comparable to cortical bone and due to its excellent MRI compatibility permits artifact-free follow-up examinations.
