Mighty Oak Medical has reached a strategic partnership agreement with the Spanish multinational MBA Surgical Empowerment to market the Firefly® surgical guide system in Spain and Portugal

June 24, 2020 By SPINEMarketGroup

June 2020 –Mighty Oak Medical, an American projects’ incubator and leader in specialised solutions for the spine, has reached a strategic agreement with MBA Surgical Empowerment , a Spanish company dedicated to the distribution of surgical technology, to market the surgical guide system Firefly® in Spain and Portugal.

Firefly® is a revolutionary system of 3D printing of bone models and guides used to facilitate the use of deformity correction screws in the spine. These guides are adapted to the anatomy of the patient with 99,7% accuracy. This is achieved through thorough presurgical planning, adapted to each individual and based on data provided by computed tomography (CT) prior to surgery, with the parameters for placement set through specialist software . The mechanical guides which will be needed, as well as the trajectories of the corrective elements, are determined prior to surgery from the data collected from the patient. This reduces the time spent in the operating theatre, increases precision and improves results. The proficient use of the guides requires a short training and they are easy to use.

The Firefly® guides solve the need to reduce intraoperative radiation in spinal procedures. They are also ideal for those cases that require long periods of reconstruction by eliminating intersegmental movement during surgery.

” Mighty Oak highlights the importance of having a world-class distribution partner such as MBA Surgical Empowerment “and the opportunity to expand the scope of Firefly® as the solution of choice for spinal surgery”, said its president, Heidi Frey. The system has been used to place more than 15,000 screws worldwide. “We look forward to working with surgeons in Spain and Portugal to achieve the best possible results for their patients,” she concluded.

Carlos Marina, CEO of MBA Surgical Empowerment, highlights what the agreement with Mighty Oak Medical will amount to: “We are offering technology with demonstrated results which provides safety benefits, less radiation exposure and reduced surgical time, without the initial costs and with unmatched precisión”

This alliance between Mighty Oak Medical and MBA Surgical Empowerment strengthens the Spanish company’s strategic aim to increase its product portfolio for complex pathologies and correction of spinal deformities. It will make technology proven to be beneficial, and suitable for pediatric use, available to hospitals in Spain and Portugal.
