Medtronic Surgical Technologies has completed a $14 million, 17,000-square-foot surgical training facility at its headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.The facility, which is known as the Dr. Glen Nelson Surgeon Education and Training Center, will provide training for surgeons in cranial, spinal and ear, nose and throat procedures. It is named for Glen Nelson, a practicing surgeon from 1969-1986, who joined Medtronic as executive vice president in 1986 and was elected vice chairman in 1988, a position he held until his retirement in 2002.
The new facility is expected to provide training for 750 surgeons and healthcare professionals from all over the world every year.
“Opening the Dr. Glen Nelson Surgeon Education and Training Center allows us to meet the growing need from our customers to train with our products and discover how our technologies can be applied to their patients’ surgical needs,” Mark Fletcher, senior vice president for Medtronic and president of Medtronic Surgical Technologies, said in a statement.
