Johnson & Johnson Medical (Shanghai) Ltd. announced last October that it has entered a co-marketing and distribution agreement, as well as an R&D agreement, with TINAVI, the market leader in orthopaedic robotics in China. This strategic collaboration would allow DePuy Synthes1, the orthopaedics business of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies*, to bring TINAVI’s robotic solutions for spine and trauma surgery to the highly competitive China orthopaedics implant market. To date, the system is the only arm-based robotic technology with multiple indications approved for use in spine and trauma in China.
The TINAVI robotic platform, approved by the National Medical Products Administration (formerly the China Food and Drug Administration) in 2016, consists of a robot arm, intraoperative planning interface and integrated navigation. The sophisticated robotic arm is designed for maximum clinical reach, can be run in motorized or manual mode, is surgeon driven and has a small footprint. The integrated navigation features include intra-operative 3D imaging, optical navigation and intra-operative screw planning.
“The signing of this agreement is an important milestone in the field of digital surgery both in China and for the DePuy Synthes business globally.” said Will Song, President of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices China Ltd. “We will work to create an open innovation ecosystem, promote digital and technological medical innovation, provide insights for the Chinese medical industry through local collaboration, optimize patient experience, and help upgrade the health industry, so that more people can access more convenient and better medical services to achieve the great vision of ‘Healthy China 2030’.”The agreement with TINAVI aligns with our aim to build a connected digital environment where technologies that enhance surgical performance, education and monitoring as well as help guide patients through to full recovery are connected – pre, intra and post-operatively across the continuum of care.
