(Nasdaq: EXAC), which designs and manufactures bone and joint restoration products for hip, knee, shoulder, spine and biologic materials, said that its Exactech Spine division has received FDA clearance of its new Gibralt® Occipital Spine System, which includes occipital plates and 360⁰ articulating rods.With these additions, Exactech now provides spinal fusion solutions for the full spine from the occiput, or the back portion of the skull, to the sacrum, the bone at the base of the spine. Posterior cervical spinal fusion procedures continue to increase globally, with an estimated 100,000 procedures to be performed in the United States in 2013. This type of procedure uses various components that act as an internal brace to provide stabilization during fusion.The Gibralt OCT system includes polyaxial screws and cannulated screws in multiple diameters and lengths, hooks, rods, rod-to-rod connectors, offset connectors and cross connectors to provide maximum versatility for the surgeon.The occipital plate features medial lateral adaptability from 25-45mm, bend zones for easy contouring, low-profile occipital screws and 360⁰ articulating rods that offer flexibility in positioning. Clinicians may construct Gibralt Spinal System components into a multitude of configurations based on individual patient anatomy.
