SC MEDICA is a Dual Category Award Winner in the 2025 Medical Device Network Excellence Awards

April 2, 2025 By SPINEMarketGroup

SC MEDICA has been recognized for its groundbreaking contributions to spinal surgery, winning prestigious awards in the Innovation and Safety categories in the 2025 Medical Device Network Excellence Awards.

The Medical Device Network Excellence Awards honor the most significant achievements and innovations in the medical devices industry. Powered by GlobalData’s business intelligence, the Awards recognize the people and companies leading change and shaping the future of the industry. The company won the Innovation award for its pioneering FFX® technology, which offers a novel, minimally invasive solution for managing spinal pain. Additionally, SC MEDICA received the Safety award for its radiation-free surgical procedures, which significantly enhance patient safety and surgical outcomes.

Innovative spinal pain management solutions by SC MEDICA

SC MEDICA’s FFX® technology has redefined spinal pain management through its minimally invasive spinal implant solution, specifically targeting back pain originating from facet joints. Facet joints, often underestimated in their contribution to back pain, are responsible for up to 45% of such discomfort. The FFX® system addresses this by offering a novel method for pain relief, providing immediate and sustainable results. This system combines two critical components: the facet cage and the facet screw. The facet cage acts as a spacer, significantly increasing the foraminal height and facilitating indirect decompression. It offers a wide and maximized bone graft chamber, available in several implant footprints to match patient anatomy optimally.

The facet screw, designed with self-compressive progressive threads, ensures a secure and stable fit. This design acts as an anti-migration locking system, preventing displacement and enhancing the facet fusion process. This unique and patented combination optimizes surgical outcomes by mechanically blocking facet joint motion and promoting bone growth for long-term relief. The FFX® technology’s innovative nature is further underscored by its receipt of the Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA, highlighting its superiority over existing technologies. Protected by five families of patents, the technology emphasizes its proprietary and unique characteristics, positioning SC MEDICAas a pioneer in spinal facet fixation and earning recognition for its commitment to advancing spinal healthcare.

Enhancing surgical safety with radiation-free procedures

SC MEDICA’s commitment to enhancing surgical safety is exemplified by its FFX® technology, which significantly improves surgical safety and efficacy. The system boasts a lower reoperation rate of 3.6% at two years post surgerycompared to traditional pedicle screw systems, which have a rate of 10.7%. This reduction in reoperations not only indicates enhanced patient safety but also reflects the long-term efficacy of the FFX® system. By reducing operating time by 35% and intraoperative blood loss by 44% compared to pedicle screws, the FFX® technology contributes to safer surgical procedures and quicker patient recovery, minimizing the physical toll on patients and healthcare resources.

A standout feature of the FFX® technology is its elimination of the need for irradiation during device implantation in open surgeries. This ensures a safer environment for both patients and surgical teams, addressing concerns about radiation exposure in surgical settings. The short learning curve associated with the FFX® system allows surgeons to quickly and effectively adopt the technology, further enhancing surgical safety. SC MEDICA’s commitment to evidence-based safety is demonstrated through an international Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) involving 10 centers across three European countries, with a total of 320 patients to be included and followed up to two years post-surgery. Additionally, the technology’s safety and effectiveness are supported by six peer-reviewed publications, providing robust evidence of its clinical success and reinforcing SC MEDICA’s dedication to improving surgical outcomes.

” We are truly honored to receive these two awards for both Innovation and Safety. At SC MEDICA, we believe that true innovation is not just about pushing boundaries – it’s about setting new standards.

“Up to half of the patients with chronic low back pain suffer from facet joint-generated back pain, with standard treatments providing only temporary relief for about three months. With our Facet FiXation innovation, FFX®, we address this by providing a long-lasting pain relief solution, with a clear ambition to establish a new standard of care in the years to come.” – Camille Srour, CEO
