StaXx® XD Expandable Device

July 11, 2016 By SPINEMarketGroup

The StaXx® XD Expandable Device is an expandable PEEK spacer that allows for controlled in situ distraction in 1mm increments. The low-profile, expandable design allows for a significantly smaller working channel compared to a standard monolithic implant, which may result in less bone removal and nerve retraction. The device is designed to be expanded in situ to allow surgeons to more precisely restore proper biomechanics and balance, while accurately matching the patient’s anatomy.

Simple Technique, Precise Sizing

The StaXx® XD Expandable Device is easily expanded in situ with the squeeze of the surgical gun trigger. The StaXx® XD spacer is designed to provide optimal distraction and precise implant fit, while providing controlled implant insertion. The implants are available in various lengths and widths as well as convex and lordotic endcaps, which, based on radiographic measurements of over one thousand vertebrae , are designed to conform to the anatomic concavity of the endplates, maximize the surface area contact, and enhance fixation.

Attributes of the StaXx® XD Expandable Device System

  • Controlled in situ distraction in 1mm increments
  • Less invasive
  • Convex implant design conforms to patients’ anatomy
  • Lordotic implants available
  • Proven strength, PEEK modulus
  • Potential benefits may include reduced nerve root retraction, bone resection, and soft tissue disruption.

About Expandable Cages

Expandable interbody cages allow surgeons to go through a small corridor and change the geometry of the cage to correspond to what the patient’s spine requires. These implants may help protect a patient’s nerve roots and other structures in the area near the cage or along the corridor through which they are implanted. Sometimes can be implanted with a minimally invasive surgical procedure.
