December3, 2020- Noblesville, IN– Nexxt Spine, LLC, amedical device company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets products for the surgical treatment of spinal disorders, is proud to publicize the firstimplantation of the NEXXT MATRIXX®SA Cervical Turn-Lock System. Showcasingtechnology unique to the NEXXT MATRIXX® line of products, the system is centered around anintentionally engineered 3D laser printedtitanium implant with varying pore sizes from 300μ, 500μ and 700μ. Nexxt Spine patients benefit from the strength and biocompatibility of titanium along with a modulus of elasticity comparable to PEEK. Each in-house printed interbody offers architecturally significant geometryincluding a 75% porous lattice to encourage osteointegration and radiographic visualization.
TheNEXXT MATRIXX® SA Cervical Turn-LockSystem is designed to eliminate the need for traditional plate and screw fixation while providing a zero-profile construct in anterior cervical fusion procedures. Additionally, a 90° one step turn lockfor the mitigation of screw back out, and self-guided instrumentationare designed to increase surgeon confidence and procedural efficiency.
The initial implantation was performed by board-certifiedorthopaedic surgeon, Dr. John Klekamp at Williamson Medical Centerin Franklin, TN on August 24, 2020. Since then over 50 subsequent surgeries have been completed across the country. Dr. Klekampnoted, “On behalf of my patient and myself we are both grateful and honored to have been the first recipient and surgeon to have benefited from Nexxt Spine’s latest technological advancement.
for the treatment of cervical spinal disorders. The release of NEXXT MATRIXX® SA Cervical Turn-Lock System came at a most opportune time for us, as my patient had undergone a previous four level anterior cervical fusion from C3 to C7 four years ago. Over the course of time,he developed adjacent disc disease at the C7/T1 disc space, with severe bilateral neural foraminal stenosis and debilitating C8 radiculopathy. We faced the decision as to either perform an anterior plate removal and subsequent C7/T1 Anterior Discectomy and fusion and plate in a patient with challenging anatomy, or a posterior decompression with cervicothoracic instrumentation and fusion.
The NEXXT MATRIXX® SA Cervical Turn-LockSystem allowed for C7/T1 anterior decompression and stabilization adjacent to the previous fusion without the need for plate removal and associated larger surgical exposure. The patient’s anatomy provided a challenging approach above the sternal notch, but once the discectomy was completed the implant placement providedadditional distraction and indirect decompression of the bilateral neural foramen. The design of the interbody device incorporating the Matrixx lattice allowed for generous biologic material placement, and lattice for bony ingrowth. The specialized instruments for screw placement were critical for obtaining the necessary angles for screw hole preparation and placement into the C7 and T1 vertebral bodies. The locking mechanism was easily engaged, and secure.”
During follow up examinations, Dr. Klekamp noted “My patient is now months from surgery and doing extremely well with complete resolution of his preoperative symptoms.”
Dr. Klekamp has practiced at the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee since 2004.
