NanoHive Medical and DirectSync Surgical Unveil New Hive Lumbar Cage with Piezo Smart Sensor

July 10, 2024 By SPINEMarketGroup

In recent years, the field of spinal implants has witnessed significant advancements, particularly with the integration of intelligent technologies. These innovations are transforming spinal surgeries, enhancing patient outcomes, and reducing healthcare costs.

In October of last year, the strategic collaboration between NanoHive Medical and DirectSync Surgical was announced, an alliance aimed at redefining spinal fusion procedures. This joint effort focused on developing a 3D-printed interbody fusion cage capable of stimulating and sensing, an unprecedented innovation in the field.

Now, the new Hive™ Soft Titanium® lattice and DirectSync Surgical’s Piezo Smart Sensor have finally been unveiled. This implant seeks to stimulate bone growth inside the fusion mass and remotely monitor fusion progress and patient compliance.

According to NanoHive Medical, their Soft Titanium® provides the optimal delivery platform for the smart sensor, enabling it to stimulate bone growth and monitor the fusion process in real time. This breakthrough is set to revolutionize patient care and spinal surgical outcomes.

The innovative Hive™ implants seamlessly integrate patient-powered stimulation to expedite fusion and potentially reduce costs associated with biologics and patient compliance issues related to external bone growth stimulators. Additionally, the implant provides surgeons with a critical post-operative data analysis tool, potentially reducing expenses associated with post-operative imaging.
