Lucent Ti-Bond

June 27, 2016 By SPINEMarketGroup

Lucent® Ti-Bond™ is a line of PEEK interbody implants with a plasma-sprayed titanium porous coating. The company’s Ti-Bond coating consists of random, unconnected titanium pores, which are biomechanically adhered through a plasma vacuum spray process to the superior and inferior surfaces of its PEEK interbody implants. This results in an ideal bone-opposing surface while allowing for direct visualization of the fusion mass through the radiolucent PEEK material. Ti-Bond coating, with its strong bond, creates the ultimate marriage between PEEK and titanium. Plasma-sprayed titanium porous surface coatings have been used on orthopedic implants for over 30 years with excellent long-term clinical outcomes. The radiolucency, elastic modulus, and strength of PEEK join the benefits of microtextured titanium.Lucent Ti-Bond

  • Immediate Stability and Long-Term Fixation
The plasma-sprayed coating results in increased surface topography.
  • Excellent Radiolucency
The radiolucency of Lucent Ti-Bond implants is maintained by the fact that the body of the implant is made from PEEK, a radiolucent material.
  • Proven Clinical History
Spinal Elements’ Lucent PEEK devices have been marketed since 2004. Coated orthopedic implants have been marketed since 1977.1
Lucent Ti-Bond is the culmination of these two technologies.

About TLIF

A transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is performed to remove a portion of a disc that is the source of back or leg pain. Bone graft is used to fuse the spinal vertebrae after the disc is removed. TLIF provides fusion of the front and back of the lumbar spine. The front portion of the spine, called the anterior column, is stabilized by the interbody spacer and bone graft. The back portion, or posterior column, is locked in place with pedicle screws, rods and additional bone graft, alongside the backs of the vertebra.

About Spinal Elements

Spinal Elements was formed by Todd Andres and Jason Blain in November 2003 and was originally named Quantum Orthopedics, Inc. SEI began with a focus on developing technologies utilizing advance design and high-performance materials that could then be sold to (or distributed by) strategic corporate partners. Steve McGowan joined soon after Todd and Jason to round out the executive management team.

In 2004, the Company moved into its corporate headquarters in Carlsbad, California and received the first product clearance for Lucent® and Crystal®. The business model helped propel PEEK to be viewed as a standard for interbody products throughout the spine industry and the company soon became one of the world’s largest users of PEEK in medical applications.

The company name officially changed to Spinal Elements, Inc. to reflect spine focus in 2006 and began efforts to develop and sell products featuring Spinal Elementsthe Spinal Elements brand. Later that year it commercialized the world’s first polymer stand-alone cervical implant, Mosaic®. Since then many other products – Controlled Delivery Guns, Lucent Magnum®,Mercury®, Magnum+® – have been successfully launched, and a robust product pipeline is constantly being filled. http://www.spinalelements.com
