The LfC’s 6th CadaverLab conducted in co-organisation with partner company Via4Spine, and with the participation of an international group of experts and spine surgeons from Germany and Poland took place in July 2023 in Institute of Practical Medicine in Poznan (Poland). The main topic was LfC’s patented Ilio-sacral joint stabilization according to the ISaF® procedure (Ilio Sacral autogenous Fusion, Ti-3D-Truss), as well as the novelty ISaF(+), 3D printed titanium alloy implant with bone-mimicking special TrabeQcell® organic structures for improved osteointegration conditions.
ISaF(+) – #1 is an extension of the existing indications for stabilization to include fractures in the sacral area, mainly in the AO classification group B;
ISaF(+) – #2 is a safer and more effective treatment of patients with declining bone quality through targeted reinforcement of the implant in the bone with cement..
In addition to lectures on the anatomy and biomechanics of the IS joint, the participants gained a comprehensive knowledge of patient management from correct diagnosis to procedural surgical intervention using practical intraoperative tricks. The practical experience on human cadavers gained during the training is already being implemented in clinical practice by yet another group of several surgeons. Most importantly, thanks to the ISaF®/ISaF(+) procedure, another group of patients with dysfunction in the area of pelvis(girdle pain) and/or sacrum (low back pain) are being given the chance for successful treatment.
